Earlier this year, Apex Lifts entered a four-year STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) partnership with local secondary school, The Halley Academy.

The sponsorship supports yearly challenges such as Year 7’s “Race to the Line”, where students explore aerodynamics, materials science, and the principles of motion by designing and racing their own model rocket cars against other schools across the UK.

The programme aims to inspire more students to continue with STEM subjects through school and into future careers. According to EngineeringUK, only 65% of schools currently reference STEM careers in their curriculum. By sponsoring and promoting STEM-related activities, Apex Lifts hopes to help raise that figure and strengthen engagement among young people.

As part of the partnership, Apex Lifts visited The Halley Academy to speak with sixth form students about pathways into STEM careers — particularly Lift Engineering — highlighting opportunities within the built environment and encouraging more young people to consider engineering as a rewarding career choice.

We remain committed to supporting the development of the next generation of engineers, particularly within the lift and escalator industry. Through our Sidcup workshop and continued STEM sponsorships, we aim to inspire young talent and promote innovation in the industry.
