Apex Lifts’ Service Sales Lead, Brian Maginnis, completed the London Marathon on October 3rd 2021 and was supported by a number of volunteers such as Apex’s Insurance Coordinator, Jodie Harvey.
After months of training by running approximately 40-50km each week – including 10km very second day and a long run of 21km on weekends, Brian completed the 26.2 miles in an impressive 4 hours and 10 minutes.
Brian ran the marathon in aid of Children with Cancer UK, a charity that helps fund over 60 research projects across the UK, accelerating breakthroughs to help drive up childhood cancer survival rates and find kinder, more effective treatments to reduce long-term side effects.
With a fundraising goal of £2,500.00, Brian is extremely close to reaching his fundraising target - Donate Now.
Describing his marathon experience, Brian had the perfect weather conditions whilst running – no rain and the sun shining! The crowd created an amazing atmosphere, encouraging all participants throughout… this included water station volunteers such as Apex’s Insurance Coordinator, Jodie Harvey.
As a regular marathon participant, Jodie had to sadly defer her running place this year as a result of injury. Not letting that stop her from being there on the day, Jodie volunteered at the 8-mile water station, handing out water and words of encouragement to all runners – including Brian who managed to stop by!
Brian celebrated his accomplishment with a nice cold pint of beer and a pizza… very well deserved! Additionally, Jodie found the entire volunteering experience extremely rewarding despite it not being the usual experience for her.
