Meet the team - Elsie

04 October 2016

How long have you worked at Apex Lifts?
I have worked at Apex for 46 years.

Having worked for Apex for 46 years, what would you say you’ve learned the most?
My most valuable lessons have come from past experiences, but I’ve also learned to enjoy the present and be optimistic for the future. In short, to just keep broadening my mind.

What was the best project you worked on?
The best project I was involved in was the actual launch of Apex Lifts in 1970, which was an exciting time. Also, starting the accounting computer system in 1985 and overseeing its development into the sophisticated all-singing & all-dancing system we have today. And there will be more improvements in the future.

What is your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest ongoing achievement is getting to grips with financial affairs.

What’s your favourite building in London?
It’s a difficult question to answer, but I must say I admire Tower Bridge. Not only is it functional, but it’s a beautiful piece of architecture. When I was a little girl and the ships sailed up the Thames, Tower Bridge was always opening and closing for them. I was so amazed at what a clever piece of engineering it was.

What are your interests outside of work?
My interests outside of work are mainly art, history, walking and struggling to learn the saxophone!

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
I know I am tenacious and diffident, which I probably shouldn’t admit, so I’ll go with cautious, trustworthy and determined.

We’re off to the pub – what’s your order?
Ah yes, I enjoy a drink! My order would be a gin and tonic - I have just discovered Hendrick's gin.

Favourite biscuit?
I’m sorry, I don’t care for biscuits. However, I do like cakes – scrumptious!
