Apex Lifts co-founder, John Wathen, sadly passes away

13 October 2017

It is with deep sadness that Apex Lifts announces the passing away of John Wathen, who died on 8 September 2017. John co-founded  Apex Lift and Escalator Engineers Limited in the year 1970. He then continued to work as a Lift Tester for the company until his retirement in 2003.

With his comprehensive lift knowledge, expertise and attention to detail, he was widely acknowledged as a leading lift tester throughout his career and an inspiration to many other engineers.

“We are all saddened by the loss of John, who was integral to the growth and success of Apex Lifts from day one,” said Warren Jenchner, Managing Director of Apex. Mick Holderness, retired Apex Production Director, added, “My abiding memory of John was the toolbox jacket he always wore and the enormous weight of it.”

Demonstrating his lasting passion for Apex Lifts in one final gesture, John was placed in his casket by his family wearing his favourite Apex fleece. Apex Lifts extends its deepest sympathies to John’s children, Helen, David and Robert, and his grandchildren. He will always be in our memory and a treasured part of Apex Lifts’ proud history.
